What’s in my Camera Bag/ Travel Edition
Ever since I came back from my 3 months trip to South America, I learned a lot about travelling for long period of time. So thought this is the perfect time to write a blog about my gear as I am off to another month long trip to this beautiful continent.
The first change I wanted to make as a travel photographer was to rethink about my gear choices. The weight of my full frame 5d m4 with full frame lenses was making me slow and making the process of creating images less of an enjoyable experience and more of a hassle.
The first thing I did when I got back was look into other lightweight system and after trying different systems, I finally came to a conclusion to stick with Fuji and Panasonic.
Initially I wanted to invest fully into the Panasonic m4/3 ecosystem, and I did partially. But taking the GH5 for few trips , I did realised it’s limitation when it comes to the photo side of things. I was very happy with the video capabilities, especially the in body image stabilisation of GH5 is the highlight of the system.
That’s when Fuji released the XT3, on paper it looks like a perfect camera with 2 exceptions( no ibis and flip out screen)
But I couldn’t resist the temptation and invested almost fully into the system. And I am very happy with the XT3 and the whole fuji eco system. I absolutely love how small the lenses are and the quality of the photos and videos it produce.
So here goes my new travel kit
Camera bodies : Fuji XT3, Panasonic GH5 , GoPro hero 5

Fuji 10-24 f4
Samyang 12 mm f 2 ( astrophotography special lens)

I have a reason to choose the kit I have and I will explain it in this blog.Let’s start with the camera bodies
My main camera of choice is the Fuji xt3 for stills and gimbal works.
My second camera Gh5 is a back up camera for timelapses and some handheld video works when I Don’t have access to a gimbal.
Plus since I have a dedicated telephoto lens for gh5 I will be using it for any wildlife shots.
Gopro hero5 for me is a specialist camera, I only use it when I go to a beach and want to capture some underwater shots.
Lenses
Fuji 10-24 f4 will be my main choice of lens for landscape photography as it’s wide and extremely sharp lens and it’s got image stabilisation which is perfect for vlogging and gimbal works.
Fuji 23 f1.4 will be my choice of lens for any lifestyle kind of images ,food photography during my travels, occasional environmental portraits and any street photography like when I wander around the markets.
Fuji 56 f1.2 will be my primary lens for portraits mainly portraits of myself and who I travel with.
Samyang 12 mm f2 will be dedicated to astrophotography , as it’s a fast lens and wide enough for my taste for Astro.
Laowa 7.5 f2 will be dedicated to timelapse on my Panasonic gh5 and some astrophotography timelapses too.
Leica 100-400 is my dedicated wildlife lens with my gh5 .
Bag
These 2 bags are new edition to my ever growing kit.
I choose one of these bags according to the trip I plan, if the trip is more of a rugged hiking trip, I will choose the lower pro tactic 450. If the trip is more city based or if I don’t have to wear my hiking cloths I choose the badsmart bag purely due to its look, plus it’s a pretty good camera bag. Both these bags are anti theft bags, which means the zips are inside.
Drone
I own 2 drones, a mavic 2 pro and a mavic air.
Mavic air is a new addition to my kit, purely cause of its size. I choose the drone according to the type of trip I plan. If I have access to a car, I choose the mavic 2 pro as it is the heavier drone. On the other hand, Mavic air such a small and compact drone, If the trip consist of lot of hiking, where weight is an issu, I will choose the Mavic Air.
Other accessories
I Pad pro 11 inch for editing photos on the go.
Wd my passport wireless pro for backing up the files on the go.
A travel tripod and a gorilla pod for vlogging.
A rechargeable head torch
2 sandisc 256 gb extreme pro memory card
Rode videomicro compact
I do own a DJI ronin s but I never take it for any travels, I use my friends zhiyun weeble lab for any gimbal shots.
